Anthracite Marble Bathroom Vanity Top

On this top the basin is not a separate piece: the bowl is produced from the counter's own stone. Side faces cut from the slab are mitred at 45 degrees and bonded, and the joints are filled with a coloured epoxy prepared from the stone's own dust. A well-made bowl joint can be felt by hand but is hard to pick out by eye. The base of the bowl is prepared with a slight fall towards the waste; without that fall water stands on the surface and leaves limescale marks over time.

Anthracite is the darkest end of grey. It does not read as hard as black, yet it gives a room weight; set against light cabinet fronts, the contrast makes the vanity top the focus of the bathroom. There is one behaviour of dark surfaces worth knowing: the limescale mark left by a drying water droplet shows sooner than on pale stone. To reduce this we saturate the surface with an impregnator and recommend a pH-neutral cleaner rather than an acidic product for daily cleaning.

Measurements are taken on site once the cabinet is fitted. The tap hole, bowl position and any overflow are cut in the workshop; drilling on site increases the risk of cracking the stone.
