Travertine Kitchen Island
Travertine · Travertine
A half-oval travertine kitchen island; its front body clad in vertically fluted travertine strips, with a thick-reading top edge.
Travertine · Travertine
A travertine slab cut perpendicular to the bedding (vein cut). Cut to measure for wall cladding, countertops and table work.
In detail
In this slab travertine's horizontal bedding lines read from end to end: the result of cutting perpendicular to the bedding (vein cut). Cutting the same block parallel to the bedding (cross cut) would have given a clouded, diffuse and calmer surface. The two cuts yield two different materials from one stone, which is why we discuss direction of cut as much as colour when travertine is ordered.
Travertine is a softer stone than marble. That means ease of working, but it also means the surface is more open to scratching. On work with low contact intensity — wall cladding, side tables — this is not a problem; on a heavily used kitchen countertop, using a chopping board should become a habit.
Pore preparation offers two options: pores closed with a filler of the same tone (filled) or left open (unfilled). We recommend filled for wet areas and unfilled for wall cladding and exteriors. In both cases an impregnator delays liquid penetrating the stone.
Slabs can be delivered cut to measure; thickness and finish are set according to where the stone will be used.
