Grey Marble Slab

In slab sales what the client sees matters more than the finished product: every slab carries a pattern that will never be repeated, so the choice is made from the slab itself rather than a catalogue. In this grey slab white and dark grey veins form a broad web, and the ground, leaning towards green, shifts tone with the light.

The slab in the image is at the curve-cutting stage for an oval table top. Alongside slab sales we also cut to measure: straight cuts, curves, radii and cut-outs are completed in the workshop on the bridge saw. Before cutting, a template is laid over the slab and where the vein will run is decided together — skip that step and a vein meant to cross the centre of a top can end up at the edge.

Slab thickness and finish are set according to where the stone will be used: polished or honed for countertops and table tops, antiqued or brushed for floors and exteriors. Offcuts can usually be put to use as side table tops, window sills or skirtings.
