Grey Marble Dining Table

Grey marble is the choice for projects that want a calm table top without an entirely plain surface. On the top shown here, dark grey and white veins run through the centre as a single line; the cut was set to keep that line close to the middle, so the table reads symmetrically to either side.

The stadium form, with its short ends left curved, removes the corner problem of a rectangle: circulation around the table becomes easier and there is no sharp corner to chip. Because the curve is produced on CNC, the two ends are identical; a curve ground by hand always announces itself.

A strip of the same stone can be bonded beneath the top to give the appearance of a thick mass. That choice is settled together with the base: a base that grips the centre of gravity prevents deflection even in a top that looks slender.

A grey surface carries the traces of daily use better than white. Polished shows the vein most clearly; honed renders the same stone a shade lighter and more matt.
