Green Marble Dining Table

Green is the most characterful colour family in the catalogue. In this stone the ground is a deep green; fine light veins and occasional copper-toned lines are not scattered across the surface but form a texture facing one direction. On a large table top that matters, because the more directional the pattern, the calmer the top reads.

The gallery shows the top as a slab in the workshop and then in its installed state. Nesting table tops were cut from the same slab: pieces prepared from consecutive cuts of the same block keep their colour and vein kinship when they stand together. When two green pieces from different blocks are set side by side, the difference in tone is immediately apparent.

The table was mounted on a black metal base; the dark metal lifts the top off the floor without suppressing the depth of the green. As for the finish, polished increases the saturation of the green and brings the vein forward; honed renders the same stone more matt and softer.
