In a set of nesting tables three tops stand together, so the relationship between the pieces matters more than the look of any single top. The three tops in this set were cut from the same slab, from neighbouring regions: colour tone and vein character belong to the same family in all three. When pieces from different blocks are used, the difference in tone shows immediately once the three tables are side by side.
The tops are seated in black metal frames. Two dimensions are critical for stone seated in a metal frame: the bearing allowance of the top and the corner clearance. Because stone behaves differently from metal with heat and humidity, a few millimetres of clearance are left; without it the frame pinches the stone and a crack starts from the corner.
The edges were finished polished. A side table surface is not used as heavily as a dining top, so a polished finish is easier to look after here; even so we recommend coasters, since marble can etch locally where it meets acidic liquids.
